“Cool Water, beautiful flowers, hand in hand forever” Thingyan Festival at Indonesian International School (IISY)
Dear teachers and staff of IISY, please come up to the stage to have picture together with our Excellency and Madam”
After the announcement of the MC, the teachers and the staff of IISY take their place on the stage. All of their faces fill with big smile as beautiful as Padauk flowers, the symbol of Thingyan festival in Myanmar. Even though all of them are a bit tired as opening ceremony of Thingyan festival in IISY has just finished successfully, they look very happy and fresh. Outside of the sport hall “ Ki Hajar Dewantara” their students start playing water joyfully. As usual, IISY Thingyan is earlier than the actual Thingyan days in Myanmar since the school has its holiday on 13, 14, 15 and 16 of April. The students of IISY refresh themselves right after the Mid Semester Exam which was over on 9th April.
Myanmar people celebrate their New Year festival known as Thingyan festival since the meaning of Thingyan itself is “transition”- from the old year to the new one.
As this transition in very important for people in Myanmar, they would like to be the new born persons in coming New year, who have no more sin but fill with pure thinking and good deed. They clean up their sins, stress, and unwanted greed with cool water, sprinkling or throwing one another lovingly. Not only darts on their bodies but also in their mind are washed away with water.
By bringing the same theme in tradition of food like cendol in Indonesia known as Mon Let Saung in Myanmar and lovely sweet sticky ball or Mon lon Ye Bo as inside is palm sugar (gula merah ), we can see the nearest blood stream between Indonesian and Myanmar people.
Varieties of students and teachers performances bring delights. Excellency and madam also lovingly encourage all of us with beautiful songs and dances.
Excellency looks enjoying Myanmar food, Madam tries to dance in Myanmar Thingyan tunes, the principal of IISY in Myanmar traditional dress, Myanmar teachers goyang or sway harmoniously with Poco-Poco, Indonesian students playing water together with Myanmar students, all of these are telling the same story of great unity and togetherness.
Warmly welcome ! “New” Ambassador and Madam, “New” meaningful future of IISY, by hoping for the “New” working spirit for success.
Begins with this “Cool Water, beautiful flowers ---- hand in hand forever” in Myanmar New year !!!
