Three Myanmar Muslim leaders attend Conference of Muslim-Christians Religious Leaders of Asia

 Three Myanmar Muslim leaders namely U Nyunt Maung Shein, President of Islamic Religious Affairs Council (H.Q), U Hla Maung, Merchant Secretary (Ma Ma La) and U Kyaw Khin, General Secretary of Myanmar Muslim National Affairs Organization (H.Q) attended The Conference of Muslim-Christians Religious Leaders of Asia on 25 February – 1 March 2013 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The theme of the conference is “Bring ‘A Common word’ to Common Action for Justice in Asia”.

There are 4 main objectives of the conference, namely:

  1. To become familiar with the letter of 138 Muslim scholars to Christian Leader, and explore ways to understand it from the religious and cultural perspectives in Asia;
  2. To share in a respectful manner the diverse ways Love of God and Love of Neighbor that are practiced by Muslims, Catholics and Protestants in Asia, including the varied effects of this;
  3. To discus the possibility of common collaboration in the implementation of this divine mandate within the Asian context, especially with marginalized and poor sectors of society;
  4. To promote deeper personal friendships among religious leaders of Asia.

The conference was hosted by a joint committee of Indonesia Muslim, Catholic and Protestant organizations, with the support of regional and international partners such as International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS), the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), Christian Conference of Asia (CCA), Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia (KWI) and Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI).
